So we have (relatively) recently started out on perhaps our most important journey. Just a tad over 6 months ago, we welcomed our baby daughter Lydia. And wow, let me tell you what a ride that has been!

L’s birth was actually pretty easy…well, if you don’t count the 21 hours Jaime spent in labor and the fact that the first doctor on duty wouldn’t give her an epidural. But L finally arrived and was as beautiful as she could be (and I promise we aren’t just saying that because we are her parents…seriously…). We had a bit of a scare the first few days of her life as she was sent to the NICU due to some digestive concerns. Talk about a trying experience. We were told pretty early on that she was ok but the doctors still wanted to keep an eye on her in the NICU. But that didn’t mean that the fact that seeing her hooked up to all those needles and IVs wasn’t terrifying and heartbreaking.

After 4 days, she was released and we went home as a family (yes, I said the “f” word). Life has been an adventure ever since!

L has been a great baby and we are so lucky in that regard! She puts up with our crazy schedule and being toted around the city in all types of weather. Perhaps most exciting, is that we will very soon start introducing her to our world of travel!

We have trips planned for pretty much every month for the rest of the year – some with L and some without. Ron heads to CA for work in July where he gets to see our good friends, the Wickens. The whole family heads up to Wisconsin for the Fugate/Douglas family reunion (Jaime’s side of the family). Jaime is headed to Boston at the end of July. September brings us to Maine to visit family. Then October (hopefully) brings Ron and Jaime’s next big trip – Easter Island! We are keeping our fingers crossed that we can pull that one off!

We want Lydia to love traveling as much as we do. No reason not to start her off early!
